Finally got the release version. <3

While I followed the series in stream, it sure feels different when you can read the manga from start to finish in one go.

I recommend to everyone always make use of the opportunitiy while it is still on stream. The release version has cute separators between the chapters. ^.^

That's 9 months since V6 was released, so the author seems to be slowing down a bit from the two-books-per-year release cycle of the first six volumes.

Also an anime has been announced last month.

The font seemed all over the place in this chapter. It feels like one font used for uncomfortable situations didn’t render properly?

@Ingraman It's the end of the manga. This was basically just a teaser to help sell the LN. it only covered volume 1.

Most manga and light novels have afterwords where you can usually tell its 3-5 years since those have been written. But the anime mention in this one indicates that the manga must be quite fresh in Japan as well.

In general I am not fond of those anime adaptions, thinking of Invaders of Rokujouma or FUNA titles. But Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill anime is a good one. I also like the opening title they use very much. ^^

So if the "Northern City" really is supposed to be our Berlin, Germany 1,000 years in the future (and not just some fantasy city of the same name), then what are Imperial Capital and Southern City supposed to be? Prague and... Linz, Austria?

... Yes, the Imperial Capital is Prague. In chapter 0 page 19 we can see the Church of Our Lady before Týn in the background.

@Ingraman Oh, I wanted so desperately to make a similar comment when I posted this combined panel, but my courage failed me, and I didn't say anything. I therefore salute you for your bravery.

I'll say it again, it's downright astonishing how much better the pacing is in the manga versus the original novel. Just having the animal reactions there in line with the story is so much better.

Well, I tip my hat to the manga artist for this week's part. Not only did he capture the looks on Monica and Slaine's faces perfectly after their (ahem) fall, he managed to get the bit with Slaine versus Axe without saying much at all, yet speaking volumes.

If this keeps up, I'm going to spend the credits to buy both the LN and manga.

v8c5, pg 29:

panel 2 - Once upon a time, the holy church was more than the holy maidens were more than mere figureheads. -> Missing words? Phrases? It looks as though two sentences/phrases might have collided here, blowing a few words into the weeds. “the holy church was more than the holy maidens, [missing words] were more than mere figureheads”? Or “the holy church was more than [missing words] [and] the holy maidens were more than figureheads.” One of those, perhaps (I vote for option #2!), or maybe my reading comprehension isn’t so good today. ;)

And so we continue with a plot line that I'm still not entirely sold on. Asley's motivation for reworking or removing the pleasure district is one-note and his plan isn't very well though out. He doesn't have any personal stakes or established history against pleasure districts so its inclusion in the story at this point feels like a padding side plot that got out of hand.

His intention to save people when they are placed in front of him is noble, but the situation in the district of that town isn't treated as abnormal by any of the residents. Unpleasant, sure, but not shocking. He's not trying to stop an evil system that's gone out of control under everyone's nose, the evil system is a known element of the town that is working as intended. Aileen brings up that the economic and political forces that made the district in the first place would just reconstitute it once Asley's work was done, and I don't see Asley's plan sticking long term unless he's planning on using that money for systemic change.

"This does not bode well" is an understatement. This is an omen of catastrophe... and one can only hope that our dear Heale, with his subjects, can somehow turn the tides. We've seen that relying on just humans wasn't enough. Mayhaps monsters will become the key to destroying this icosahedron of hatred.

Always feel kind of weird how detailed the artist draws bodies.

@Serah If I really like a light novel series I'll often read the manga too; it doesn't take that much extra time and it's fun to see the art. But for some novel series I generally like but am less keen on, I've dropped the LN but continued with the manga since it's a lower time commitment. My free time is pretty limited, so I can't read as many series I otherwise might in a vacuum. I'll also follow manga-original series.

For this series, I started with the manga when it started serialization, drawn in by the art. When some time later the LN started serialization, my sense based on what I had read of the manga was that it would probably be one of those series I wouldn't follow both the LN and manga for, so I didn't try it then. But recently, with it going on sale, I did pick up the first volume of the light novel. While I don't hate it, the manga seems like a pretty close adaptation and I think my earlier sense that I wouldn't follow both was right. Usually I think more about missing stuff in an adaptation, but here I think the adaptation might actually be better. I just wish it released a little faster...
