@sasha-mcglynn I apologize for replying so late. I must have missed it in the notification panel. When it comes to magic then it's just great, I'm loving it. The mangaka truly put much focus on it just like how it was in novels too :) By the way, perhaps I've said it before, but I really like that there is an actual lore for magic in this series instead of your standard video game-y "press X to cast Fireball" thing like in many, many other LNs and Mangas
Chapter 6 is up!
This is the end of Volume 1, and we're not getting the eBook ready, so last chance to get any corrections done.
We're also going to be heading right into volume 2 without a break, so chapter seven will be up in two weeks!
Contraceptive film: The Japanese actually gives a specific brand name, Mylura, but that product was eventually discontinued for a very good reason--it didn't do anything. Given how much trouble I had even figure out what the hell it was, we figured it was better to use the generic term.
@raitoiro That's the point. They weren't firing back. It was also perfectly plausible that the terrorists used that village as a FOB, but GTFO of there after they realized the village is gonna get attacked. So, the protagonist and his friend along with the mercs they commanded just rounded up an entire village and slaughtered the inhabitants. Perfect, textbook war crime.
@smashman42 When you think about it, the system that Corpo set up is perfect for desensitizing people. They started treating it as a game to get as much points as they can. Suddenly, they are picked for further testing and the scope of the command increases, but it's still treated as a game along with the system keeping scores and granting them points. Their employers tricked them without technically lying to them or providing misinformation. It's them who assumed that it was still a simulation, so they can't really do anything to them.
This was quite a nice plot twist thoug. This reveal also definitely confirms that for all his lack of expressions and stoicism the protagonist isn't a sociopath or psychopath. Plus, I wonder how will they approach this situation in the future. For all intents and purposes, what they did was a bona fide war crime and can very easily get them into the court.
Edit: Now that I think about it, what if that woman he is meeting with is also from that village? Or knows some people who are there or from there? It will only add on to the drama.
@legitpancake Too true. I am also current with the scanlations because I want to stay current. But still, I like seeing how JNC translates it and will still buy the ebook version from them in order to support all of the series you mentioned as I truly enjoy all of them. But still, the scanlations are seeing my through.
@yumenokage I think hock might be used more frequently in some regions/areas. I've heard it my entire life. There's also context differences between sell and pawn. Hocking would be something along the lines of selling cheap specifically for the purpose of quick cash. Similar to pawn, but pawn is actually a short term, high-interest collateral loan. Sell may work, but doesn't have the same context.
