Alrighty I would say that’s enough on New Life + for the time being, the main point of the topic was to see if any new info was out about the series and as others of said there isn’t, so I will be locking this post down, in the future if there is any news the people on this forum will more then likely be the first to know...outside of people who work directly for JNC.

So excited! I’ve read the first two volumes of “A Sisters” and have the third but will switch over to digital as I don’t hold onto any paper editions. It’s a very funny series.

I hope whoever has the rights to Rokka open it up to digital too. Really want to read past vol 2

@Claire-Lilly @Clarabelle I do like my female MCs, but not all ones with male MCs are terrible by any means. I find a big thing (though not the only thing) for quality is having a good gender-balanced cast, though.

    I won't spend money on a book I can't read.

The only exception I can think of is the Onegai Twins fanbook I bought last year. That was, I believe, the only Onegai Series paperback that didn't get an English release. And it was mostly illustrations anyway.

I don't think there's really any set answer for that. If the series is selling well, the publisher is going to print more book same as anywhere else. Amazon is going to order stock and they'll sell it as long as they have that stock. So how long a book or series is going to be available depends on how much stock amazon has, how fast people are buying that stock and whether the publisher is printing more books.

I'm buying all the bookworm raw on Kindle from amazon.com. TO Books, the publisher of the bookworm is rare among the Japanese publisher to publish their Japanese e-books outside of Japan. I've been asking other publisher too whenever I get a chance, but so far, no other publisher is able to do that.
    Not even other LN publishers.

From what I remember the problem before (Reincanated as a Sword licensing request) was that Micro Magazine doesn't want digital only. But, unlike before, print is already an option for JNC.

@rahul-balaggan Oh cool, happy to hear!

I also forgot to mention One Peace. They are a cool height but crazy thick and kinda poor quality printing and terrible back cover layout. I’d put them over the 7Seas I’ve seen but under Yen ON

@lixaxy Giving an amount of time isn't really a good indicator of level. I had been studying for about 5 years when I moved to Tokyo and realized very fast that my level was lacking because of the nuance of the vocabulary. If learning only from textbook or any form of guided format, most things are taught in a way which makes you understandable, but not using everyday language. I like to use the English word "work" for this example because Japanese have multiple words for the same English word. In textbook/guided Japanese, you'll usually see 働く for the verb form, and 仕事 for the noun form. Therefore, it is technically correct to say 仕事に行っている, but actual Japanese are more likely to say 出勤する. While either will be understood, and literally mean the same thing, guided lessons will ignore the latter.

Before the move, I was often told by Japanese that they understood what I was saying, but "you talk like a preschool kid". It took moving to Japan and seeing actual Japanese spoken to realize what they were talking about. While this is technically still vocabulary, I think the real advantage to SRS is getting used to using the actual words in context repeatedly enough to get a feel for when to use which form. Vocabulary lists for things like JLPT N1 or EJU will get you to the point of being able to explain what's going on, as in the first sentence, but completely ignore most of the nuance words. In my case, it took a rather lengthy conversation of the word 解れない (which I just had to copy/paste the kanji from an online dictionary for because my IME doesn't want to recognize it) in order to understand this point. As an aside, the internet seems to have this one backwards, so I wouldn't trust google or tanoshiijapanese if you want to add it for vocab. Both listed it as unravel/fray, and it's actually the inability to do so.

Conjugations mess up on the internet A LOT. Japanese to English learning sites are just as bad. Most of those learners are using a site called weblio for translation sentences/context, and a lot of those don't even make it to mentioning a sentence subject let alone get quantities or verb tenses correct.

Once again, I hope this can be seen as helpful advice, but I can't stress understanding context enough if you really want t be able to read or speak at a reasonable level. My own level, even after having already studied for 5 years, took off rather quickly after realizing this. I'll also apologize to anyone reading this with interest for not including hiragana or romaji readings, but was short on time when I started the post.

Thank you all for taking the time to answer my thread, regarding about the use of the word "japs", sorry, I didn't mean any ill, I honestly thought it was just a simple way of abreviate japanese people so I didn't thought too deeply about it, still, I'll be careful in the future about this so thanks for letting me know.

Anyways, a shame the fate of this project, even with the isekai cliche I honestly enjoy stories with a strong MC no matter the theme of the story, I really liked reading how Renya destroyed those noble kids and the way his character thinks in general.... well, back to the Fan translations I guess....

@silvercat422 said in Need your help with deciding to buy LN raws or not!:

The third series probably will never get licensed (the publisher is AlphaPolis) and I’m currently relying on the fan translation. Not forgetting, that the shipping is still really expensive (using the japanese amazon)...

My alignment is Lawful Good, so I'd want to support that author by buying their works in some form or another. If I never expected to see a licensed English translation I'd probably just get ebooks for space reasons, but since you prefer the physical volumes that makes more sense for you.

That's just how I am not how I think anyone else is "supposed to be," and it's also easy for me to take that position since I have a high-paying job and live below my means. $168 + shipping would not make me give up food for a week.

This topic is starting to veer off course so I will lock it down, it was simply that OP was unaware that JNC has started doing physical books.

I'm interested. I think this is a wise move since the majority of the series is kind of seen/experienced through Haruhiro's viewpoint/personality. He is kind of apathetic at times so his internal thoughts can be surface level on anything not dealing with his Party. Additional perspectives can help with the world building, which I love. Seriously, the spin-off ecchi Grimgar series, What's wrong with a Hero being Jobless, gives more information about Alterna in its first two chapters than the entire 14 volumes of Grimgar has. And that translated chapter 13 alone, gave so much information on the Elves in Grimgar.

So, this has the potential to do some great world building.
