Well, I just finished reading this, and wow, my decision to hold off checking out the prepubs was right! That was one heck of an emotional roller coaster of a story. And the climax of events in chapter 9... Unexpected and yet expected at the same time... As soon as Heartseed showed up, it kind of telegraphed the following events, but that's because of what kind of fellow it is.

I wasn't sure I'd like it, but it was an enjoyable read, but not one of the stories that grabbed me as must buy immediately. That said, I'll be looking into the future books, though it will be a lower priority. For a rating, I'll give it a solid thumb up.

Ah, whoops. I might have done the silver = blonde hair stand in thing, so I just lumped her in with the others. Still, all the Europeans in the series so far have really light hair colors. Interested to see the American of the group if they get one (they compared America to the Mafia in V1 iirc... So maybe we won't get a positive American IS user). xC

Be interesting to see if they diversify the crew with maybe some Latin American or African IS pilots later too.

Yume's solo action scene reminded me of Potato Girl in Titan getting a scene like that. I mean, she's not 100% comic relief, she had factored into battles, but still, no meows / Nyans in that serious scene iirc.

I'm up through part 4 volume 1. I do like that they address my questions as they come up in this book (a skeleton has no muscles, so shouldn't his limb movements be bad? The answer was yes, very sluggish to start).

I thought JNC was just that for a long time. Was quite disappointed to learn that it was otherwise, and further more disappointed to learn that from reddit rather than the official site. FAQ really needs that question imho.

I got my membership fully knowing how the site worked, so no regrets on that part, well worth it for me. But I can see where misunderstandings could occur where it shouldn't.
