So to be clear, what I think happened in this part is that she started with a server does everything (even graphical rendering) approach, and shifted to the server sends updates, each Smart Frame renders the results itself model once she lost most of the servers. (I don't think she could have gone fully peer-to-peer, since she still needed to stream the rest of the performance from the remaining server. And each frame having to transmit to each of its peers would have had some 'interesting' effects on network performance. But it's hard to tell with this series.)

If that's what happened, then I agree with you that the first approach was very stupid. Even if the server did the composition there was no need to do the entire rendering and stream a video - just send the composed state to the frames that take care of rendering it.
With 40k people in a small area is already difficult to get a good network, no need to fill up the bandwidth for no reason.
But at the end we're trying to make technical sense of something the author just wrote as a whim because it looked cool.

I've no idea how good Erlang would be for something this graphics heavy, but, maybe? That said, regular Android apps (and VR games, as of the last time I used my Quest 2) generally can't update while they're running.

Nope, but a new app can be installed and the controller/server could tell the devices to run app Y instead of app X. It all depends on how you design the platform.
It's actually a good design for smart frames for events, you register them with a controller for an event and the controller tells them what to run, dynamically, without the need of flashing a new firmware every time. Then you reuse for other things.

@Valanduin I thought it ended at 11, super happy I'll get more mecha gremlin chaos.

Seems like Arata will end up with a full army of wives before he finds the resolve to confess to Reina.

The two scariest characters combined to squash the third scariest. I almost feel bad for Nosfy.

Ah, equals now and in love. A good story.

At some point I was convinced that the plot would lead to Eugene to be involved with the Vepar succession war, and the new Queen would become a recurring character if not even an harem member. Instead, they all ended in a dragon's stomach.
Fourth harem member fully unlocked, no surprise she's the princess childhood friend, now to keep things fair she needs her own contract.
A nice change of pace that this time Eugene shared the spotlight for the climatic battle with his best friend rather than a love interest.

@LeavesCat That's also a pretty good guess for why 'this' ritual failed while the others worked. And wasn't the original point of a Saint to be someone who could perform rituals using the crests the Sun Witch created...?

@b-scot-morgan Kalmia didn't, but I'm fairly certain her mother did. She likely didn't want to "worry her husband" or whatever excuse she might choose is, so she made sure he wouldn't find out. And given he's not exactly the most observant man... I imagine pulling the wool over his eyes would be fairly easy.

It would seem a little odd for his second wife to have that level of control over his household. You'd expect at least some of the servants would be loyal enough to the family to discretely inform the Duke of something that threatens their future...

That said, I do get the feeling this is one of those series, where information is only exchanged between people when it's convenient for the author...

@Hylebos

Aaand it's out :)

Never been a fan of reincarnated adults as children getting into relationships with actual children.

This author is seriously reinforcing my stance.

The cross-dressing MC maid trope seems written more for the author's enjoyment than plot or reader's enjoyment.

Finding it difficult to continue this series, and I'm only in Part 2.

Based on the afterword, we might have around 2-3 volumes more at most?

Could be…

Maybe we’ll get a spinoff series that’s focused on the critters. ^o^

@cimmadif yup. But if we go by previous history of DRE which I read here, the second volume is bound to be lower quality. This works well as a one-shot.

FYI, v8 is out in December in Japan.

It was a nice read, although quite different from what I thought at the beginning. If anything, I was convinced Emilia was going to bectye main heroine, but that seems to be clearly Rebecca instead.
I'm glad that Zach can still act as a ruthless assassin when needed instead of refusing violence to make up for his previous job.
Curious to see if the next volume will feel like a collection of short stories like this one.

I'm reminded of the novel Armor by John Steakley.

You have a split POV narrative. One point of view (OldPOV) is set in the past, and follows a participant in a hopeless war who enters some sort of battle trance when faced with mortal peril that heightens their ability as a soldier, allowing them to survive.

The other point of view (NewPOV) is set closer to and/or in the present, and features a character investigating the events that happened in the past to OldPOV and their companions. In Armor's present day, NewPOV uses a battlesuit's recordings to experience what happened during the war. In Miss Medic, it's through Tory's diary.

In both cases it's initially ambiguous if OldPOV survived the war or not, and if so, what they are doing in the present day.

Where did Glen get a separate carriage? They arrived in Aquavitae with just one, no?

Volume 5 Part 1 6%:
A sheepish smile crept across Shenley's face. "I've never seen anything like this before. What's Aqua Vitae like? I know we're almost there, but I can't help but wonder..."

I looked to my other side, where Glen was driving a second flying carriage next to us.

"Headmaster? Shenley has some questions for you about Aqua Vitae."

Glen, who'd been earnestly concentrating on flying, furrowed his brow.

"O-Oh... I might not exactly have the ability to answer any questions right now," he said, looking nervous.

"Flight sorcery has more to do with one's precise control of mana than the amount of mana you use. You're very qualified in that regard, so I'm sure you'll be able to freely use it in no time."

"W-Well, it's nice to know that you think that, but I'm still having quite a bit of trouble right now."

I have to agree to the comments above. Feels like the author was too focused to keep the same dynamics as the main series that he didn't bother to show us how these dynamics started, instead we got Lydia and Cheryl immediately falling for Allen after meeting him just so they can act like we're used to see them.
Ironically Lydia's mother already appointing him as her son in law felt more natural since she had the reason he's the boy who could save her daughter.

@karasutengu - yes, both seasons were so well done, including some fun bits (from the manga?) like the original rescue of Tino, and her in present day going around the clan house spreading the Gospel of Krai -- with a cameo by Kris as one of her victims.

@heimdal7 It could leave her vulnerable to a noble's pressure under certain circumstances. But in this case we know Lera would take a job at the institute and spend her days doing research and/or monster fighting. She'd be protected by the Peylons from Noble poaching.

It's still kinda funny to see a story where monsters explode into particles of light when killed and randomly drop some of their items in a neat little pile when killed, and everyone just accepts that as a normal thing.

So he's getting a special sword for each girl in his harem, I wonder what the one from the headmistress will be. Now the question is how Licia will react once she learn she has rivals.
