So how was the ending of the volume? I stalled out on it early on. Is the ending at least somewhat worth the read?

It really sucks they have done this to the story to make it longer. The web novel was actually one my favorites that I had read multiple times.

I'm a bit late in responding here, but if you excise the "family trying to set them up" bit, you've described both the Twilight and Fifty Shades series, both of which were written by authors who (at time of writing this sentence) identify as female. I'll also note that even if you adjust your hypothetical story to "comes across an attractive older girl/woman", the Twilight/Fifty Shades statement would still hold true.

So I think it's a bit much to say that this story is "a female MC written from the gendered expectations of a male MC/guy trying his best to write a female-centric romance novel".

So Cion is masochist . The hero is "dead" and that after story is a little awkward when you are using a text to speech reader with a british female voice to read....

My one question is why does the picture look like they just got out of a fight the day before even when they have healing magic and a month has passed?

So is J-novel licensing the manga also?

Read this volume today, not bad, although I think in some parts it was too fast paced and I was confused by how friendly turned out to be the loli demon queen. Still, while I prefer swords myself, the premise of fighting in a fantasy isekai with modern weapons is fun enough that I'll keep reading.

This arc is longer than I was expecting, and while it introduced some interesting concepts, I'm already missing giant mechas.

Just as a bit of info -- from what I can tell, the author hasn't continued beyond this point quite yet. So it remains to be see whether there will be more in the future.

The introductory message about "universal ethics" seems to describe UH perfectly. Everything they do screams "there is exactly one way to do things, and everyone who does it differently is evil." Their goal is to have every planet be identical. Their vision is more stagnant than the Abh.

(Of course I imagine that starting a war and lying about it goes against their universal ethics, so they're also massive hypocrites.)

@LightningLeaf Bit of a necro post but in volume 1 Char clearly says (monologs to himself anyways) that he has never considered being intimate with Lam because he didn't want to risk having any biological children when he knows how horribly his own childhood went strictly because the families former leader repeatedly tried to have him killed so their son could take over.

Now, this was of course before he realized Lam was hot magic jesus with a bundle of sociopathic apostles who are all trying to get into her pants with various levels of ignoring consent. Even when he does start to think he's actually attracted to her he recognizes that she hasn't voiced the same thing and he isn't a fucking rapist (Which, much to my disappointment) seems to be a rare quality in this world.

Well Ikki already fought and won a battle without bring able to use Ittou Shura, although it was against a weaker opponent, so I'm curious to see what he'll pull out against the perverted paintress. Unless the answer is simply that he trained hard and he can use it twice, but that would be too convenient.

Im glad to have been i troduced to this series, it's been gripping all the way through.

I just watched the first four anime episodes of 'Crest of the Stars' today and this very subject was part of episode 3 where Lafi explained to Jinto what her father did to her, and how it affected her at the time. It showed her as a small girl staring into a mirror checking her face for cat signs and then checking her hands wondering whether they would turn into paws or develop retractable claws. So it did affect her mentally as a child (according to the anime). Whether her father knew it would or not was not addressed. She did say that she resented him as a child for doing it even if it was in jest.
