I’m not sure I would have picked this up had I known what it was actually about from the beginning (not the sort of thing I usually go for), but I can’t say I’m disappointed I did. I didn’t love the idol character, and I was disappointed that Haruhi kind of disappeared in the epilogue, but overall an interesting writing style, mix of characters, and themes. I think I’ve tried all the contest entries that got published (and have kept up with all but one), and this one feels the most…literary? Like it could fit in in a literature class including contemporary novels, while still also being a light novel that incorporates aspects of visual novels. Well done, especially if this is your first work.

Also, assuming the afterword is indicative of your own experience, my condolences. I lost a brother too (my oldest). He suffered from depression and anxiety from a really young age and ultimately overdosed. My parents did everything they could for him the best they knew how but ultimately couldn’t prevent it. It doesn’t do any good to blame yourself, but that can be easier said than done. Good for you for writing this book as part of your healing process.

I kinda wish Sheila had more chapters because it's always her POV (or someone's who's talking with her) when the political machinations are revealed and the actual plot moves forward.

You may want to give https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/3478/future-volume-release-schedule a read. It's not uncommon for there to be several weeks before a new volume begins translation, that's just the chaos that is the licensing process. But J-Novel has never stopped translating a series once they have started outside of truly extraordinary circumstances. Even series that are not profitable continue to be translated. Just give it some time.

Nice to see that the relationships progressed much faster that I expected, now the harem is official, and Eugene won't be able to refuse doing lewd thi gs with his new girlfriends since he regularly has sex with Eri.
The dungeon exploration too is progressing quickly, although it might become slower now that the difficulty level is ramping. Wasn't expecting Eugene to be able to defeat Eri, albeit in a nerfed form.
Next volume is going to be interesting.

We'll have to see what direction takes the next volume. Saving the goblins isn't a plot I'm particularly interested in, but I'm a bit curious about what Yume left behind (assuming it's not just her friends) and what the deal is with Manato's regeneration. I have to admit though that after 20 volumes it's hard to start caring about an entirely new cast and the thought that the author might do that again is not appealing. I'm also worried by the fact Merry wasn't mentioned once.

The calculus of lives is always such a fascinating moral quandary. It's like the trolly problem at a near unfathomable scale. If I start a war and tens of thousands of people die, but at the end of it the entire nation prospers and rises to heights like never before, then is it worth starting the conflict? Do I value the lives of those living today or the lives of those living tomorrow more? There really isn't a right answer. Though the First Prince has very much come to the wrong one. He was throwing a tantrum. He would destroy hundreds of thousands of lives to show others he should be respected. But all he proved is how unworthy he was of respect. There wasn't any happiness to be found at the end of that road.

Patty's fishing side story was full of heart. Patty and Bell are two sides of coin. One grounded, focused, serious. The other distracted, flighty, like the wind. Yet they're both Tearmoon women and both have time-traveled to deal with villains. Seeing Patty take on a little bit of Bell's flighty optimism has big feels.
