Mentor takes place in roughly the same part of the world, but a really long time ago. It ties in to Private Tutor in a lot of little ways, mostly through characters who seem to be the distant ancestors of people or countries. You get to see a Wainwright developing her shield magic, for instance. It also gives more details on what characters in Private Tutor mean when they occasionally mention the gods being dead.
I keep meaning to write up short reviews for the rest of Mentor, but it hasn't been easy finding time. I might wait to review volume 3 when volume 14 of Private Tutor starts streaming, since there's kind of a connection there.
Edit: Oh, and while the LNs for Mentor finished, the manga is still ongoing. It's on volume 3 of 6 now, so it might actually cover the whole series.
