@NAme said in Water Magician Arc 1 Vol. 5 Discussion:
@b-scot-morgan he did say that he was interested in theoretical physics before ending up with history, so he could have memorized them. It's just a set of equations with very similar terms. Technically he only needs to memorize T00, T01, T11 and T12 to remember how the rest work, so that's four equations instead of all 10(16). He's also had decades to mull them over or test things out with his magic, as he's done. Even if those same decades also made him crazy lol
The reason I give him the benefit of the doubt here is that I have volume 1 in fresh memory. In It, he tested a great deal and figured out that the less he works with physics, the more expensive his spells are.
He also tested that smaller scales require more energy to affect, so the author could have thought of magic as a field theory of sorts. Because if magic is carried by a field, then higher frequencies and smaller distances require more energy. Just like how smaller photon wavelengths require higher frequencies, which means more energy.
That's fair, I can see where you are coming from. It's certainly true that he has had plenty of time to experiment with magic, and devoted a lot of effort to training and testing things out during that time.
It's just that my impression of Ryo's character so far has been that he likes to talk like he knows more than he really thinks he knows (he likes to pretend to be an expert, especially when he is playing around with Abel).
