It has unfortunately not been licensed, so there is no official translation. Digging around a bit, it looks like there are fan translations for several of the volumes online, but I don't think that we're allowed to post links to that sort of thing here.

Sorry, my knowledge of history is quite limited. I saw a thread here that was speculating what historical events the author used as inspiration for the book, so you might want to check that out.

I can see why JNC might not want to show 'how the sausage is made' but without revealing too much they could:

show a list of top 10 sales by title/volume show a list of top 10 most viewed prepub volumes show a list of top 10 sales by series

@hopebestman I'm not saying there was never a general that was also a good fighter, though someone like Ghengis Khan is probably a better example of someone who is both a powerful fighter and the general. Those would we exceptionally rare cases and they would have to surround themselves with the more traditional types of generals that are actually leading the troupes, provisioning supplies, directing camp building etc etc. Even those known for being great fighters did most of their actual direct fighting early in the career, long before they were in charge of whole armies.

In a lot of media (including LN, Manga, and Anime) most are super great warriors who fight on the front lines with the troops. That's just not the role of a general. Most historically successful generals are more like a Nimitz or Sun Tzu who specialize in troop movements, logistics, leadership, intelligence, and strategy. It's not like in popular media, "oh I can swing my sword and take down five fighters, I'm the general now!"

@Kalessin There is a forum in the 'license suggestion' sections and people do participate and comment there from time to time. It hasn't been very long since I started reading light novels, so, really grateful for the explanation. I didn't really know much about yen press policies or customs. Honestly, I have been trying at seven seas entertainment too, filling 'alderamin on the sky' in their monthly surveys, where they ask the readers' suggestion. I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed for this series, as well as the author's new one which has been on quite the roll as well named 'Seven Magic Swords Rule'. Thanks again, much appreciated. ^_^

@Jon-Mitchell said in Is it better for companies to only go after completed LNs?:

we'd not have like 90% of the series that are here. Some of my favorites we are 'caught up to Japanese release'

Besides never-ending series like Smartphone, we'd have lost Mixed Bathing which was on hiatus for ages.

    I'm not sure what's worse:

being 'left hanging' because a series is on hiatus/gets abandoned (or killed like New Life+) ending gets rushed like Bluesteel Blasphemer series goes off the rails like Infinite Stratos seems to have done

    Tough choice.

I disliked the rushed ending to Bluesteel more than the dangling plot threads in Me, a Genius?

At least for JNC titles, Premium members don't have to keep paying for a series after it goes off the rails. That happened for me with Little Apocalypse, though I can back for the 2-book not-great-not-terrible conclusion.

@SomeOldGuy - I went through my western SF & fantasy paperback collection earlier this year and decided what to keep, re-read and then donate, donate or (if beat-up and musty) to toss.

I came across a number of them where I thought: nope, I'm probably never going to re-read that, and if I really want to some day I can always get the Kindle edition.

That freed up a lot of space.

@killerx09 yes, I liked volume 3 but it seemed more silly than the first two, aside from the ending.

I enjoy Bakarina but at times it seems I enjoy it in spite of itself. It certainly lacks any sense of direction at this point.

Tearmoon is legit probably my 3rd or 4th favorite series currently being released by J-Novel, depending on where I slot it vs Dendrogram. I've been infected by Mia-itis and can't help myself I suppose.

@xdrfiredogx said in What should be prioritized in a translation (Spoilers for If It's For My Daughter... book 8)?:

@LegitPancake Sure... Except this is a fantasy world.

    spoiler

Generally speaking, attempting to moralize the story without actually taking in account the story is probably doomed to fail. That's always the problem when this discussion comes up.

Somehow talking about this story always seems to loop back into just how bad their age gap is. My question is more of a nuts and bolts kind of question. In a scene where the author is trying to drum up positive emotions should it be translated in a way to remind the readers of cultural taboos and elicit the wrong emotional reaction (even if you can go down a long rabbit hole of logic to justify why it is ok, it will still have the initial negative reaction).

On the first point of it being a fantasy world so it is ok; I don't think what he did is entirely accepted there either. Even though a lot of the female characters (i.e. Rita, Granny Wen, Chloe) seem to immediately accept the situation and think it is fine, a lot of the male characters seem not to. Dale's father and brother both have doubts about if Dale should marry her, and Dale is afraid to tell his cousin of the wedding because he doesn't want to be judged for marrying someone that he introduced as his daughter.

@Seiya It’s only a web novel in Japan, no light novel and the illustrations in the ebook are exclusive to the English version. The web novel on syosetu seems completed, but I’m not sure how many chapters were covered in the English book.

With that I am gladful and that it does not follow the trope of a redeemable idiot. Though, I am fully aware of how the novel ends, I was seeing if others read and enjoyed it?
It's not a series which I've been desperate to actively seek out the raws and the translated chapters of the Web novel version are rather rough. But the manga version is to me enjoyable

My Oldest manga should be a 20+ years old Doraemon: Petualangan Nobita di Negeri Sihir or Doraemon: Nobita's New Great Adventure into the Underworld, Last time I saw it it already lost its cover don't know where it is now tho.
while I've been reading manga from manga rental ever since I knew about it, that manga was the first ever manga I bought.

as for LN, with my country being so under the radar of such literature work,
my first physical LN was Penguin Summer its (2014), my 1st JP LN was Seirei Gensouki vol.5 (2016), then my 1st EN was Re:Zero (2016)
I just bought them for collection tho.
