According to Bookwalker, JNC does in fact hold the publishing rights now. Which certainly explains the "weird contract limbo".

@HarmlessDave yeah, v1 of this is one of the few books I have on Kindle since they didn't sell anywhere else. Although the series seems to be complete now so maybe it's more likely to get picked up by someone.
