Ral... is of mixed blood himself, which may tie in with his attitudes toward non-human intelligences; again, discrimination becomes a trigger.

We still don't know what their ultimate goal is for this journey, other than that it ties in with a journal in the Sanctum's possession and that the journal provides information related to an individual of interest's travels; what they seek lies at the end of the journey recorded. The description of travel is vague enough that they can't just drag out a map and say, "Ah! That's where the journey ends!"
