Though we can't yet rule out the possibility the author just wanted to shake it up a bit after more-or-less committing to the pseudo-medieval fantasy setting for the first four volumes, and just have a zany character speaking in (almost) nothing but AmericanWestern pop-culture references. There's other elements of her characterization that I won't comment on here that could support that reading.

Really enjoyed this. I think the goofy comedy dynamics going on here was what I mainly enjoyed about the main series volume one. Two went pretty heavy on the action instead and I obviously didn't enjoy it as much as the series has slid quite a ways down my backlog but this has made me want to get back to the third volume, reminding me how much fun the main duo are.

@BartzBB While Orphen isn't the walking pile of mayhem that Sosuke (Full Metal Panic) is, the dwarves easily make up for that. Nice to know that we might have a lot more to enjoy.

@mortcs Given that Rose and Mana are incredibly codependent, it seems a likely possibility.

Surprisingly I like this. It looks like a harem series but it's actually more of a found family story. Cuteness abounds.

Pretty good but it's clearly going to be a slow burn. I intend to keep reading but not willing to call it a keeper yet.

Dropped after the first chapter. I don't think it's bad, per se, but it didn't really hook me. Might give another go someday.

For members new to J-Novel Club that want to know more about when future volumes will start pre-publication on the site:

After a volume's last part comes out, there is usually a 2-3 week break before the new volume's first part comes out. For Ascendance of a Bookworm in particular, there is usually no break. If a series is caught up with the Japanese releases, whenever a new volume is released, the new volume needs to be licensed separately. Licensing can vary wildly in how long it takes, so there are no hard estimates on when the the next volume will start streaming, sorry! As for why a future volume is not on the schedule, because of the nature of posting parts as they are translated, there is not much time between when we know a volume is ready for streaming and when it actually starts, so it will not be added onto the schedule until a few days before release or on the day of. Please rest assured - when part 1 is ready to go live and the English cover is ready, it will be added to the schedule.

Note is good but he isn't that good.
Got to say this really is what a battle between two thieves should look like. Reading the other opponent, reacting to their moves, concealing your cards, and baiting your enemy. Very much a highlight for me.

I'm sad to have finally finished this series. I wish the author would give us something like an epilogue at least.

If it’s the former, then you answered the question.

If it’s the latter (as far too many here inquire about when we’re between books of a series), then it’s more of a case that it’s presumably coming, but we have to wait for J-Novel to say so to be sure. Like every other book here, more or less.

I’m waiting to see, but not anxiously. There’s still too much molding and harem-gathering for my tastes to be excited about this story. I’m waiting for the day when our main character decides to mold multiple swords at once and then has to cut them off the sprues afterwards. :)

I give this solid 3 out of 5 stars - it is a series that I will likely keep reading but I will not remember anything about it within a few months of reading.

Good points - MC goes straight for the throat of any issue without tiptoeing around, and he gets the girl(s); fast-paced development.

Weak points - endless low quality exposition, author seems to go by default in the opposite direction of the golden rule of writing show don't tell.

The only good chuckle from Vol 1 came with exposing Efil's Service (B) skill, in a uncharacteristically subtle application of the just mentioned show don't tell principle. Well, if "service" means in the source what I think it does. If I am mistaken, please don't dispel my illusion.
