Do you never re-read titles? If so, then rentals to supplement the prepub streaming makes sense.

If you do re-read titles, then using your credit to buy a book is a good deal too.

For purchases, one thing to look at is the bonus content that is not included in catch-up months since those are the prepubs. It varies, but some of the content is really good -- my favorite is the bonus stories in the Realist Hero premium edition, where they aren't what-if or silly bits, they're nice additions to the main story.

Actually, I like how queen Lupis was handled. Usually in isekai the princess the protagonist meets is kind, wise, the best ruler you can wish for and invariably joins the harem. Here the author made Lupis incompetent and not fit to be a queen, and she's going to pay the price for her bad decisions. Once in a while it's nice to have something a bit different.

@Melicans Given my understanding of the differences between the LN and WN, I would not hold out hope for that.

seems the author has a very poor sense of distances. If you walked 10 paces and then your companion is 100 meters behind you, that means she turned around and bolted away at top speed. And 500 meters away in a forest is totally out of sight.

Also I'm betting that this blue-haired mystery guy is Karen's father, since she's got blue hair... or maybe an older ancestor. It could have been forever ago. No one has asked.
Also surprised that Patty wasn't asked about the ruins that everyone is searching for.

well, I was right on the money. And, thinking about it, I suppose having no one ask is the most convenient way to string it out and have Patty stick around long enough to get invested. Not great writing, but, whatever. Good enough. And it's still a mostly fun story

I agree. I was shocked and disturbed.

But I think (hope) there was a mistranslation somewhere? I could see how killing everyone in the house could leave the intended message to the rest of the kingdom. But I think killing all citizens is way too much of a stretch, it just doesn't really fit how we came to understand the Kingdom, and it would feel like an odd oversight by the author.

I would think killing citizens of your own kingdom is very counterintuitive. You would pointlessly lose a productive work force and the land is worthless for a noble without citizens to govern. On top of it, the king would risk appearing like a tyrant, and is not something I would see the King do unless they were in the brink of collapse and is desperate to re-establish order.

Either that, or maybe there is a much darker side to the kingdom that is being hunted at?
